There is a lot of good information in this post. One thing not specifically mentioned is the importance of extending the life of your equipment as long as possible. To do that, you will need to be sure that you are buying equipment that you will be able to grow into as your software is upgrade and your demands grow. Buying the cheapest workstation or server you can find is going lead to a shorter replacement cycle and contribute to E-waste.
